Wisconsin Needs Automatic Voter Registration

Wisconsin should follow the state of Oregon and push for automatic voter registration. Automatic voter registration simplifies the registration process by enrolling eligible individuals using information provided by the state D.M.V.  A prospective bill would include an opt-out provision.

In Oregon "the administration estimates that about 300,000 people will be added to the rolls, increasing the number of registered voters from 2.2 million to 2.5 million". Follow the Washington Post for more information on Oregon's transition to automatic voter enrollment.

Wisconsin should have no problem with this "common sense" legislation.  Moving to auto-voter would be efficient and cost effective. Democratic and Republican support should not be in doubt.  "Dems" have traditionally favored easy access to the voting process while the G.O.P. favors anything that saves "taxpayer  money".
