The Federal Constitution is the supreme law of the land.

The federal constitution, and federal law generally, take precedence over state laws, and even state constitutions.

Wisconsin's Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson remarks on the Supremcy Clause in State v. Edward Terrel Jennings

"Bounded only by the federal Supremacy Clause, the Wisconsin Constitution stands as our state's primary source of law.  This court is the final interpreter of the Wisconsin Constitution.  We perform this role with an understanding of the unique experience of Wisconsin law."
