Senator Nygren Objects to Simplifying Voter Registration

All twelve Republicans in today's Joint Finance Committee rejected a motion to simplify the voter registration process. Wisconsin State Senator Nygren suggested that automatic voter enrollment was a mandate that could somehow violate "religious freedom". Senator Knudson suggested we should "be careful" when messing around with elections. What!!

Motion 130 was put forward by Democratic Senator Jon Erpenbach. It's purpose was to provide automatic voter enrollment for eligible individuals turning eighteen years old. Motion 130 included an opt out provision.

Senator Lena Taylor spoke in favor of Erpenbach's motion, suggesting it would ensure more civic participation.
